Chevy Silverado 1500

When it comes to towing, not all pickup trucks are created equally. If there’s work to do, here’s why the Chevy Silverado 1500 will always get the job done.

Power

Clearly, if you need a truck to do some heavy-duty towing, it needs to have a powerful engine. The Chevy Silverado 1500 comes standard with a 4.3-liter V6 engine that generates 285 horsepower and 305 lb-ft of torque.

That’s just for starters, however. You can also go with one of these engines:

  • 7-liter turbocharged four-cylinder: 310 horsepower and 420 lb-ft of torque
  • 0-liter turbodiesel six-cylinder: 277 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque
  • 3-liter V8: 355 horsepower: 383 lb-ft of torque
  • 2-liter V8: 420 horsepower: 460 lb-ft of torque

You can opt for either an eight- or a 10-speed automatic transmission. Rear-wheel drive comes standard, but four-wheel drive is available.

Towing Capability

The towing ability of the Chevy Silverado 1500 is outstanding. Even the base V6 has great ability, as it can tow between 7,200 and 7,900 pounds, depending on the cab and trim you choose. The other engines offer these numbers:

  • Turbo-4: 9,000 to 9,600 pounds
  • Turbodiesel: 9,000 to 9,500 pounds
  • 3-liter V8: 9,300 to 11,500 pounds
  • 2-liter V8: 9,100 to 13,300 pounds

Towing Features

To make it easier for you to tow, there are many helpful features you can add to your truck, including:

  • A multicamera trailer system
  • Hitch guidance
  • A trailer sway controller
  • Revised shock tuning
  • Heavier duty rear springs
  • Power-adjustable trailering mirrors
  • A trailer tire pressure and temperature monitoring system
