If you’re looking for a vehicle with exceptional workhorse ability and one that can be a daily driver, the 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500 is it. Whether for business or pleasure, this truck offers outstanding towing capability.

Power

Towing needs power, and the Chevy Silverado 1500 offers plenty of it. The base powerplant is a 4.3-liter V6 engine with 285 horsepower and 305 lb-ft of torque. There are also four other engines to pick from:

  • 7-liter turbocharged four-cylinder: 310 horsepower and 420 lb-ft of torque
  • 0-liter turbodiesel six-cylinder: 277 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque
  • 3-liter V8: 355 horsepower: 383 lb-ft of torque
  • 2-liter V8: 420 horsepower: 460 lb-ft of torque

You’ll have the choice of either an eight- or 10-speed automatic transmission. Rear-wheel drive comes standard, but four-wheel drive is available.

Towing Capability

The Chevy Silverado 1500 has an outstanding towing ability. The base engine can tow between 7,200 and 7,900 lb, and the tow rating increases with the bigger engines:

  • Turbo-4: 9,000 to 9,600 lb
  • Turbodiesel: 9,000 to 9,500 lb
  • 3-liter V8: 9,300 to 11,500 lb
  • 2-liter V8: 9,100 to 13,300 lb

Towing Features

To unleash the full towing capability of the Chevy Silverado 1500, you’ll want to go with the Max Trailering package. This comes with retuned shock absorbers, an integrated trailer brake controller, and heavy-duty rear springs. A larger radiator and a 220-amp alternator are also included.
