Your Chevrolet Service Checklist

Chevy oil change light glows neon blue

The best way to keep your Chevy vehicle in tip-top shape is by making sure it gets the right service at the right times. This guide goes over the essential components you need to focus on for your Chevrolet service.

Fluids

Do you know how many systems in your Chevy Tahoe run on fluids? There may be a lot more than you realize. This is why it’s worth getting under the hood every few months to check the levels. Some fluids – like wiper fluid – get used up fairly quickly and need to be topped off pretty regularly.

Tire Pressure

Another thing you should be monitoring every few months or so is the pressure in your tires. They need to be at the right psi (pounds per square inch) in order to provide the best performance and safety, and to help ensure you get optimal gas mileage. It’s important to remember that tire pressure can change based on the temperature.

Oil

Without fresh oil, the engine in your Chevy Traverse won’t be able to perform as it should. This means that its power will be lacking and that your fuel economy will suffer. While the old recommendation used to be to have your oil changed every 3,000 miles, between 5,000 and 7,000 is probably more accurate. However, it should still be changed about every six months, regardless of the mileage.

Tires

Keeping your tires inflated to the proper levels is just one thing you need to do with them; they also have to be rotated regularly. Doing this twice per year lets them wear down a lot more evenly, which will extend their life significantly. Tire rotations also boost safety and performance.

Brakes

Your braking system puts in a lot of work every day, and eventually components will wear out. This is why it’s important to have it examined at least on a yearly basis. This gives you the opportunity to gauge the health of your brakes and replace pads, shoes, or rotors if they are starting to go bad.

Battery

The battery in your Chevy Equinox should be tested annually in order to have a good idea of how much charge it has left. A lifespan of a typical battery is only about five years, so it’s vital to know if it is on its last legs and should be swapped out for a new one.
