EV Charging Station

How do I keep it charged? That’s a common question people have when it comes to electric vehicles. In some cases, shoppers are so eager to buy one that when they get home, they realize they have no plan in place to keep their battery powered.

This is why it’s a smart idea to install an EV charging station, and it can be done fairly easily.

You Already Have Level 1 Charging

There are three types of charging, and Level 1 is the most basic. Power comes from a regular 120-volt outlet that everyone has in their homes. This will charge a battery, but it only adds four or so miles of driving range per hour, so it takes a while.

You Can’t Install Level 3 Charging

Those public charging stations you’ve probably seen around Greenville are example of Level 3 charging. Because they utilize 440-volt (or higher) outlet, they can get a battery juiced up very fast. This type of charger can’t be used at a home.

Level 2 Charging is the Key

This leaves Level 2 charging – which involves a 240-volt outlet – and you have some options when installing this in your home. The easiest thing to do may just be to have a new outlet put in. You might also be able to get an adapter for the outlet your dryer is plugged into so you can use it to power up your car. Consulting with an electrician before doing anything with outlets is important.
